Cast Change Announced at Berlin State Opera for ‘Simon Boccanegra’

By Francisco Salazar

Ludovic Tézier has withdrawn from his March 30 performance of “Simon Boccanegra” at the Berlin State Opera.

The baritone took to social media and said, “Dear friends, I have to withdraw from the next ‘Simon Boccanegra,’ this coming Sunday 30th, in my beloved Staatsoper Berlin. It is a real sad news for me, as I love this show and the great colleagues of the casting, but I cannot do any differently for health reasons. I hope you’ll understand. Wish you all the very best, your Ludo.”

As a result, George Petean will take over the title role.

Petean is a well-known Verdi baritone who has performed at the Royal Opera House, Metropolitan Opera, Opéra Royal de Wallonie in Liége, Wiener Staatsoper, Opéra national de Paris, Opéra de Monte-Carlo,  Teatro de la Maestranza in Sevilla, and the Grand Théâtre de Genève.

Petean joins a cast that includes Elena Stikhina, Marko Mimica, Fabio Sartori, and Alfredo Daza.

Tézier returns for the April 2 performance.
