The Wiener Staatsoper has announced a new cast change for its performance of “La Fanciulla del West” on Jan. 10, 2024.

The company said that Claudio Sgura will perform the role of Jack Rance, replacing Robert Frontali who is ill.

The change comes after Sgura also sang the opening night performance on Jan. 7, 2023. Sgura is an internationally recognized baritone who has performed at the Royal Opera House, Teatro alla Scala, Opera de Monte Carlo, Opera Australia, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma and Bilbao Opera.

He is set to join a cast that includes Malin Byström and Yonghoon Lee. Carlo Rizzi conducts the production by Marco Arturo Marelli.

Frontali returns for the last two performances on Jan. 12 and 15, 2024. He also replaced Carlos Álvarez, who was originally cast in the production.
