
Whitehall Choir to Premiere Hepplewhite’s ‘Living Voices’ This June
By David SalazarWhitehall Choir will give the premiere of “Living Voices,” a new choral song cycle by composer Russell Hepplewhite, on Wednesday, June 24. at 7:00 p.m. at St Paul’s Church, Knightsbridge, London.
The showcase will feature baritone Marcus Farnsworth and pianist Ian Tindale with Joanna Tomlinson conducting.
The collection comprises 10 new works, each setting a poem commissioned specifically for the project from a different British poet, including Mona Arshi, Pam Ayres, Fiona Benson, Joseph Coelho, Wendy Cope, Jamila Gavin, Roger McGough, Andrew Motion, Alice Oswald, and Michael Rosen.
Farnsworth and Tindale will also perform two additional new songs by Hepplewhite, both setting texts by Poet Laureate Simon Armitage.
The composer and several of the participating poets are expected to attend the performance and join the audience for post-concert drinks. Moreover, the full program is scheduled to be recorded in July, with a release on streaming platforms planned for January 2027.
Farnsworth is a former winner of the Wigmore Hall Song Competition and has performed with such companies as the English National Opera and Royal Scottish National Opera.
