Harlem Collective Opera has announced it will open its 2026–27 season with “The Black Composer Project,” a concert series dedicated to celebrating the contributions of Black composers.

The concert will be held on August 4, 2026, at Harlem Collective Opera’s Resident Artist Studio in Harlem.

Jarvus Ricardo Hester, Founder and Artistic Director of Harlem Collective Opera said, “This season is about reclaiming a musical legacy. These composers deserve to be heard as frequently as Schubert, Brahms, and Fauré. By presenting their works in an intimate setting, we hope to inspire audiences, educate future generations, and help reshape the classical repertoire.”

The Resident Artist Studio will offer an immersive concert experience with limited seating, allowing audiences to engage closely with the artists and the stories behind the music. The concert will also mark an important milestone for the organization as it continues to establish Harlem as a destination for innovative opera and classical music programming while championing historically underrepresented voices.
