Wexford Festival Makes Major Announcements Ahead of 2018 Edition

The Wexford Festival, which kicks off in less than a month, has made some important announcements regarding changes to its slate.

The company has announced that Japanese soprano Yasko Sato has replaced Clarissa Costanzo in “Il Bravo” by Mercadante. She will sing the role of Teodora. Moreover, Leslie Dala is set to conduct Vivaldi’s “The Four Seasons” as re-composed by Max Richter.

The company also announced the lineup for its famed lunchtime recitals which will be held at the St. Iberius Church. Mezzo Dorothea Spilger will open the series on Oct. 20 with an oct. 23 recital set to feature soprano Ekaterina Bakanova and baritone Simon Mechlinski.

A day later, tenor Richard Cox will showcase his talents with mezzo Sharon Carty getting the spotlight the next day. Oct. 26 will give the floor to baritone Gustavo Castillo. Per a press release, soprano Susannah Biller’s Oct. 27 recital is already soldout.

However there is one by Canadian baritone Brett Polegato on Halloween day with another the following afternoon featuring soprano Francesca Tiburzi. Baritone Joo Won Kang closes out the Lunchtime recitals with a show on the second of November.
