In continuation of the 2019-20 Great Performances Series, PBS will present the Live in HD broadcast of “Turandot” from the Metropolitan Opera on Friday, March 20, 2020

The broadcast will kick off at 9 p.m. EDT. The cast includes soprano Christine Goerke in the title role with Yusif Eyvazov as Calaf. Eleonora Buratto appears as Liù with James Morris rounding out the cast as Timur. Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts the Zeffirelli production with Angel Blue appearing as the host for the performance.

Of the production, OperaWire’s review stated, “By no means, a new production, the Met’s “Turandot” remains a powerful contender in its repertory. The splendor of Zeffirelli’s set still draws applause for its breathtaking detail, and [this performance’s] cast proved more than able to draw forth a powerful and sincere performance.”

Next up on the PBS Great Performances from the Metropolitan Opera will showcase “Madama Butterfly,” followed by “Akhnaten,” “Wozzeck,” “Porgy and Bess,” and “Agrippina.”
