Volksoper Wien Announces 2026-27 Season Featuring Wallis Giunta, Misha Kiria, Annette Dasch & Matilda Sterby

The Volksoper Wien has announced its 2026-27 season. Here is a look at the opera and operetta productions.

Premieres 

Hannah Severin and Ayaka Koshida lead “Ronja Räubertochter” with Eike Onyambu, Johannes Brand, Juergen Maurer, Rebecca Nelsen, Reini Moritz, Nicolaus Hagg, and Martin Enenkel.

Maayan Franco and Keren Kagarlitsky conduct the production by Ruth Brauer-Kvam.

Performance Dates: Sept. 20, 2026-Feb. 7, 2027


“Der Opernball” by Richard Heuberger will be performed in a production by Moritz Franz Beichl. Jakob Lehmann conducts the production which stars Carsten Süss, Annette Dasch, Ursula Pfitzner, Jakob Semotan, Johanna Arrouas, Hannah Fheodoroff, Juliette Khalil, Ulrike Steinsky, Martin Winkler, Paula Nocker, Nicolaus Hagg, and Skye MacDonald.

Performance Dates: Dec. 5, 2026-Feb. 4, 2027


The company will present a double bill of Brecht and Weill’s “Die sieben Todsünden” and Puccini’s “Gianni Schicchi.” Weill’s work will star Wallis Giunta alongside Aaron Casey-Gould, Daniel Ohlenschläger, Carsten Süss, Seiyoung Kim, and Alexandre Beuchat. Meanwhile, the Puccini work will star Misha Kiria, Marco di Sapia, Chelsea Guo, Mira Alkhovik, Jasmin White, Aaron Casey-Gould, and Seiyoung Kim. Robert Houssart conducts the production by Rachael Hewer.

Performance Dates: March 3-May 18, 2027


Mozart’s “Così fan tutte” will star Matilda Sterby, Mira Alkhovik, Annelie Sophie Müller, Pablo Santa Cruz, Josef Wagner, Timothy Fallon, Jaye Simmons, Ulrike Steinsky, Daniel Schmutzhard, and Marco di Sapia. Leo Hussain conducts the production by Lotte de Beer. 

Performance Dates: May 22-June 13, 2027


Annette Dasch directs “Reigen” by Philippe Boesmans. Keren Kagarlitsky conducts a cast that includes Jamie Petutschnig, Fabian Garcia, Alfred Mitchell, Tomos Owen Jones, Sophie Patterson, Felix Pacher, and Janice van Rooy.

Performance Dates: June 26 & 28, 2027


Revivals 

Puccini’s “La Bohème” will be conducted by Alexander Joel and star Mira Alkhovik, Hedwig Ritter, Jaye Simmons, Chelsea Guo, Trevor Haumschilt-Rocha, Daniel Schmutzhard, Smelo Mahlangu, Pablo Santa Cruz, Alexander Fritze, and Aaron Pendleton.

Performance Dates: Sept. 27-Oct. 23, 2027


Wolfgang Ablinger-Sperrhacke, Ursula Pfitzner, Hedwig Ritter, Josef Wagner, and David Kerber star in Strauss’ “Salome.” Mikhail Agrest conducts.

Alfred Eschwe, Christoph Altstaedt, and Maayan Franco conduct.

“Lass uns die Welt vergessen – Volksoper 1938” will be revived with Marco di Sapia leading the cast and Keren Kagarlitsky conducting.
