Voices of the Valiant Brings ‘Wondrous Love’ to NYC

By David Salazar

Voices of the Valiant heads to New York City with “Wondrous Love” on Feb. 22, 2025.

The showcase, which takes the stage at St. John’s in the Village, will feature soprano Susan Wheeler alongside mezzo-sopranos Vita Koreneva and Madison Marie McIntosh. Pianist Yannis Xylas will accompany at the piano.

The program includes highlights from the opera “3:16,” which is set to premiere in March 2025.

“’3:16′ is an inspirational story of redemption and transformation, loosely based on the real-life experiences of a United States Army chaplain. The young Mary Raven has run away from a harsh and unloving father, only to discover that the outside world is even crueler. She grows up to be Lieutenant Mary James — steely on the outside but secretly unable to overcome her intense anger and guilt… until she has a miraculous experience that changes everything,” said “3:16” librettist Susan Conti, per an official press release.

Also on the program are arias by Verdi, Puccini, and Saint-Saëns, as well as the New York premiere of Walter Seyfarth and Liche Ariza’s “A las once de la noche.”
