
Vocal Artistry Art Song Festival of New Mexico Names Scholarship Recipients for 2026
By David SalazarThe Vocal Artistry Art Song Festival has announced scholarship award recipients for its 2025 edition. The awards recognize vocalists and collaborative pianists across divisions for artistic achievement and promise.
In the Middle School Division, Oscar Groves and Grace Hsieh were winners of the Marilyn and Cris Barnes Award, while Mira Thompkins earned the Barbara and Keith Baltz Award ($150). Ayla Smith and Natan Svayatsky were recipients of the Louise Lynn Loomis Award ($200), while Chelsea Avila-Rodriguez and Maria Nicholas got to take home the Caroline and Bing Grady Award ($250). Finally, Kailey Shao earned the Jack Craig Award ($500).
In the High School Division, Eleanor Lucas received the Ross Sutter Award ($250), while Isabel Soroos earned the Amy Louise Owens Young Voices of the SFO Award ($275). Ty Andrews was presented the Marilyn and Cris Barnes Award ($300), and Ava Mitchie received the John McCullough Award ($500). The Marilyn Thomas Bernard Award went to Kadiah Dragone ($600), and the Bernstein Award was awarded to Eleanor Anderson ($1,000).
In the Music Education / Choral Division, the prize winners included Olivia Chavez, who received the AMTA Award ($150), and Raul Juarez, who earned the Albuquerque Institute of Music Award ($200). Kimberly Burgos received the Marilyn and Cris Barnes Award ($250), while Morgyn Gallegos was presented the Carl Halama Award ($500).
In the Young Artist Division, Ethni Florez won the AMTA Award ($150), Amelie Halmai-Happ got the Brahms Award ($250), Ally Thompson received the Donna McRae Award ($300), Maria Bollinger was named as the recipient of the Marilyn and Cris Barnes Award ($400), and Cierra Moore took home the Quintessence, A Community of Singers Award ($500).
In the Vocal Artistry Division, the Schubert Award ($500) went to Marshal Hollingsworth, the Polyphony, Voices of New Mexico Award ($600) went to Lillian Ridout, and the Opera Southwest Award ($1,000) went to Rachael Schneider.
Finally, Kadiah Dragone was given a full scholarship to attend the inaugural season of the National Youth Opera Academy in Santa Fe in 2026.
