Victorian Opera to Launch New Recital Series on Online Platform

Australian company Victorian Opera has announced that it will be showcasing a series of recitals from local singers on its online platform.

The series of recitals will start on Saturday, June 13, 2020, at 7 p.m. local time with such artists as Simon Meadows, Rebecca Rashleigh, Douglas Kelly, Juel Flemming, Stephen Marsh, Kathryn Radcliffe, and Shakira Dugan.

“It is our duty and privilege to engage artists through our recital series and other programs. We have more projects that we have been very busy developing, ready for release in the weeks and months to come, and are looking forward to a return to the theatre as soon as it is safe to do so,” Victorian Opera’s Artistic Director Richard Mills noted in a press release.

Since the start of the COVID-19 crisis, the company has engaged prominently with the virtual community unspooling a wide range of videos including highlights from past performances, comic videos from tenor Carlos E. Bárcenas, its interview series “Artists in Isolation,” and the mini-series “Opera-Bytes,” which follows a group of university-aged singers as they manage the challenges of a COVID-19 opera world.

“We’re incredibly proud of our small company,” added Mills. “We have always been agile in our reimagining of opera and musical theatre, and the current global circumstances have allowed us to demonstrate that yet again. Many of our staff have re-skilled or drawn on different talents in their toolkits. It’s been inspiring to observe.”
