Verbier Festival Launches First Public Listening Station

By David Salazar

The Verbier Festival has inaugurated its first public listening station, located at the Médiathèque Valais sites in Sion and Martigny.

The installation provides free public access to a curated selection of audio, video, and photographic archives documenting more than 30 years of the festival’s history through an interactive interface. Materials include concert recordings, performance videos, and archival photographs featuring artists associated with the Verbier Festival; also included are photographs by Swiss photographer Christian Lutz, who documented the festival’s 1994, 1999, 2000, 2001, and 2002 editions.

The listening station is accessible free of charge during the regular opening hours of both Médiathèque Valais locations.

“We are proud to make our collection accessible to everyone. The Verbier Festival has always sought to share music beyond the boundaries of the Festival, and this project perfectly embodies that commitment,” said Hervé Boissière, Co-CEO of the Verbier Festival, per an official press release.

The project is developed through a long-time collaboration with the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). The project is supported by the Archives of the State of Valais, the Médiathèque Valais, and Memoriav, with digitization and preservation overseen by EPFL’s Cultural Heritage & Conservation Platform.
