Vancouver Opera to Host ‘Creative Adaptation’

By David Salazar

Vancouver Opera is set to present “Creative Adaptation,” a conversation on the nature of adaptation.

The panel discussion, which will take place on April 22, 2022, will center on the company’s upcoming production of “HMS Pinafore” and how works are adapted across different forms and media. Panelists include Idan Cohen (Ne. Sans Opera and Dance), Howard Dai (rice &beans theatre), Christine Quintana (Delinquent Theatre), Adrianne Wurz (Vancouver Opera), Heather Pawsey (Astrolabe Musik Theatre), and JD Derbyshire (writer).

The discussion will be moderated by Dave Devau of Zee Zee Theatre.

“We are thrilled to once again host our engaging Opera Speaks program,” said Tom Wright, Vancouver Opera General Director, in an official press release. “Our focus on Creative Adaptation is perfectly timed with our upcoming creative presentation of HMS Pinafore. Panelist JD Derbyshire has been working with Pinafore director Brenna Corner on Pinafore’s script adaptation. This is certain to be an interesting dialogue around the nature of adaptation and what can be creatively possible.”

The event kicks off at 7:30 p.m. at the Martha Lou Henley Rehearsal Hall at Vancouver Opera.
