By Afton MarkayVancouver Opera will its celebrate longtime chorus member Don Wright during the Sunday matinee of Puccini’s “La Bohème.”
Wright will retire after 51 years and 168 productions with the Vancouver Opera Chorus. He was also a member of the Opera in Schools program from 1984 to 1988, where he performed for young students and shared his love of music and opera in hopes of inspiring others to consider a musical career.
Tom Wright (no relation), Vancouver Opera General Director, said in a press release, “It is an incredible feat to have a chorus member who has performed in so many productions for one opera company. Don Wright has been involved with Vancouver Opera since 1975, and has performed in 168 productions throughout the years. This is an incredible accomplishment for any performer, made even more special since the Wright family has been involved with our chorus for decades. We are honoured to celebrate and recognize Don’s contributions to Vancouver Opera throughout the years.”
