
Vancouver Opera Breaks Records with ‘La Bohème’
By Francisco SalazarVancouver Opera’s 2025-2026 season-closing production of Puccini’s “La Bohème” is tracking to become the highest-grossing opera in the company’s 66-year history.
The opera will surpass the record formerly held by the 2023-2024 season production of “Carmen.”
In a statement, Tom Wright, General Director of Vancouver Opera said, “we’re thrilled to see La Bohème’s enduring popularity reflected in this overwhelming audience support. We’ve had an extraordinary season at Vancouver Opera, made even more poignant by this box office announcement. Like us, audiences must be excited to welcome back acclaimed Maestro Jonathan Darlington as he leads one of the most powerful experiences in all of opera.”
According to a press release, Box office numbers for “La Bohème” are a testament to the work’s enduring appeal, as well as the surging interest in opera from Vancouver audiences.
Wright added, “the incredible success of this Brenna Corner-directed production reflects the dedication and passion of our talented artists, staff, and supporters. Combined with the support of Vancouver’s vibrant arts community, this production is set to be a defining triumph in our company’s long history.”
“La Bohème” will star Jonelle Sills as Mimì alternating with Lucia Cesaroni, Matthew White as Rodolfo, alternating with Zachary Rioux, Gregory Dahl as Marcello, Lara Ciekiewicz as Musetta, Alex Halliday as Colline, Justin Welsh as Schaunard, and Thomas Goerz as Benoit/Alcindoro.
The opera will open on April 26 and run through May 3, 2026.
