
Schmidt Vocal Arts Announces Participants for Vocal Institute
By David SalazarSchmidt Vocal Arts (SVA) has announced the 31 participants in its 11th annual Schmidt Vocal Institute, which is set to take place between June 14–28 at Miami University in Oxford, OH.
This year’s group represents 17 states. Sopranos include Tiffany Carr (Rowland Heights, CA), Addyson Finley (Battleground, WA), Mallory Goddard (Stuart, FL), Reese Guenther-Clark (Long Beach, CA), Cailey Jones (Baltimore, MD), Sophia Kaushik (Redwood City, CA), Mancy Li (Natick, MA), Josephine Packard (Mt. Juliet, TN), Abigail Scheer (Paducah, KY), Olivia Scott (Buford, GA), Olivia Song (Irvine, CA), Ryhanna Tarte (Boynton Beach, FL), Monique Tian (Newark, DE), and Clara Maya White (Sugar Land, TX).
Mezzo-sopranos are Elizabeth Clegg (Greer, SC), Zadia Danon (Brooklyn, NY), Quinn Fotos (Lakewood, WA), and Vivian Furtaw (Alpena, MI).
Tenors include Oliver Anderson (New York, NY), Arjun Bhayani (Milton, MA), Kingston Goodgame (Goodwater, AL), Nathan Lee (Burke, VA), William Norton (Houston, TX), and Carlos Rodriguez (Miami, FL).
The selected baritones are Miguel Alicea, Jr. (Miami Gardens, FL), Nik Epstein (Aberdeen, NC), Jesse Kliman (Hyattsville, MD), and Alexander Pyun (New York, NY). Bass-baritones are James Andrews (New Orleans, LA) and Frank Moreno (Houston, TX). Alex Rivera (Porter, TX) rounds out the group as countertenor.
The program will offer lessons and coachings with professional artists, master classes, and coursework in acting, lyric diction, vocal health, college audition preparation, and stagecraft, alongside recital and performance opportunities. Guest faculty this year will include tenor Richard Cox of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, pianist and coach Justina Lee of Juilliard, and soprano Marquita Lister of Morgan State University.
“The Schmidt Vocal Institute is a transformative experience for aspiring young singers, providing exceptional artistic training and mentorship during a pivotal stage of their development,” said Linda McAlister, Executive Director of Schmidt Vocal Arts, per an official press release. “We are proud to support a program that not only nurtures artistic excellence, but also inspires and empowers the next generation of vocal artists to pursue their craft at the highest level.”
