University of Michigan Fires David Daniels

The University of Michigan’s Board of Regents has unanimously voted to remove David Daniels from his tenured position.

The decision also includes denying the former countertenor of the eligibility to receive severance pay.

“At the heart of every decision of the board is the safety and well being of our students,” Regent Ron Weiser said according to MLive. “When the board sees this jeopardized by a tenured member of the faculty, we believe it’s necessary to take extreme action or dismissal.”

The decision comes after Daniels was placed on paid leave after he was accused of sexual assault among other accusations of sexual misconduct. Moreover, the University was well-aware of Daniels’ checkered past with sexual misconduct when it hired him; the countertenor arrived at the University as a major opera superstar.

Per the report, the decision to remove Daniels was opposed by a few public speakers, including two opera singers, who stated that the countertenor had helped several students further their opera careers.
