‘Marnie’ At the Met While Stars Align For Richard Tucker Gala

There aren’t any world premieres on the docket for this weekend, but there are a plethora of unique performances set to take place. So here are our picks for this weekend’s operas to see (in alphabetical order by company).

Satyagraha – LA Opera

Philip Glass’ masterpiece will get a showcase in an excellent production by Phelim McDermott and Julian Crouch. Sean Panikkar will play Gandhi alongside a cast that includes J’Nai Bridges, So Young Park, and Erica Petrocelli, among others. This work is riveting and powerful and can’t be missed. It plays on Saturday.

Marnie – Metropolitan Opera

Composer Nico Muhly and librettist Nicholas Wright will see their work performed at the Met Opera in its North American world premiere on Friday night. Isabel Leonard takes on the title role with a cast that includes Denyce Graves, Iestyn Davies, Christopher Maltman, and Janis Kelly.

Pagliacci – Opera Omaha

Conductor Timothy Mayers leads a cast that includes Jonathan Burton and Leah Patridge in Leoncavallo’s masterwork, which will be performed on Friday and Sunday at the Orpheum Theater.

Fidelio – Pacific Opera Victoria

You don’t want to miss the final two performances of Beethoven’s operatic gem, which take place on Friday and Sunday night. The cast includes Aviva Fortunata, Brent Reilly Turner, and Peter McGillivray. Timothy Vernon conducts.

Richard Tucker Gala

And finally, the New York Opera scene’s big gala at Carnegie Hall takes place with the likes of Anna Netrebko, Christian Van Horn, Christine Goerke, Javier Camarena, and Nadine Sierra, among others. The action takes place on Sunday. Those who can’t be there can catch it on medici.tv.
