Tichina Vaughn to Headline SAS Performing Arts Company & LC Vaughn Sankofa Memorial Arts Funds’ Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Concert

SAS Performing Arts Company, Inc., in partnership with the LC Vaughn Sankofa Memorial Arts Fund, will present “Tichina Vaughn and Friends Celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Day” on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2026, at 7 p.m.

The concert, set to take place at Christ and St. Stephen’s Church in New York City, honors Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through a program of opera selections, art songs, works from the Great American Songbook, and spirituals.

The evening features Grammy-winning mezzo-soprano Tichina Vaughn alongside sopranos Monica Camafreita, Lynnesha Crump, Melissa Joseph, Kimberly Lloyd, Indira Mahajan, and Kyaunnee Richardson; mezzo-soprano Daveda Browne; tenors Chauncey Packer and Norman Shankle; baritones Phillip Bullock, Eric Greene, and Antonio Watts; and bass-baritone Virdell Williams. Composer Jerrell Gray will present New York premieres of his vocal works, with Mary Pinto at the piano.

Vaughn is a Grammy-winning American mezzo-soprano and alumna of the Metropolitan Opera’s Lindemann Young Artist Program. She has performed with such companies as the Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, Los Angeles Opera, and Stuttgart State Opera, where she was named Kammersängerin.
