
Plácido Domingo Appointed Artistic Director of the Puccini Festival’s Academy
By Francisco SalazarPlácido Domingo has been appointed Artistic Director of the Puccini Academy in Torre del Lago.
The training project is promoted by the Puccini Festival Foundation with the aim of building young opera singers on a path of high-level artistic specialization, closely connected to the Puccini repertoire and stage performance.
This decision, proposed by President Fabrizio Miracolo and ratified by the Board of Directors of the Tuscan institution, will represent a step in the process of relaunching and repositioning the Puccini Festival internationally.
In a statement, the President of the Puccini Festival Foundation, Fabrizio Miracolo said, “The appointment of Plácido Domingo represents a concrete sign of the new direction we are building. The Academy is one of the pillars of our development project: an investment in the future of opera and in young talents, finding in Domingo a guide of extraordinary authority and prestige, fundamental for the dissemination of the Puccini legacy of which he is a custodian. I am certain that he will contribute significantly to giving our project an international dimension.”
The Puccini Academy was established in 1995 and was created as a place for the direct transmission of musical knowledge, designed for young artists already embarking on their careers.
Domingo has performed all over the world the world and holds the record for the most roles ever sung by a singer. He was recently awarded the Puccini prize.
