Théatre du Capitole Toulouse Announces Cast Change for ‘Carmen’

By Francisco Salazar

The Théatre du Capitole Toulouse has announced a cast change for its performance on Jan. 29.

The company noted that Michael Fabiano will sing the role of Don Jose joining a cast that includes Eva Zaïcik in the title role, Pierre-Yves Pruvot as Escamillo, and Anaïs Constans as Micaëla.

The cast is rounded out by Julien Véronèse, Victor Sicard, Marie-Bénédicte Souquet, Marion Lebègue, Olivier Grand, and Paco Garcia. Giuliano Carella conducts the production by Jean-Louis Grinda.

Fabiano made his role debut as Don Jose at the Festival Aix-en-Provence in 2017 and OperaWire noted “he was a formidable Don Jose.” He was set to perform the role at La Monnaie before it was canceled earlier this month. The tenor, however, still sings the opera in Luxembourg and Washington D.C. later in the spring.
