The Royal Choral Society to Celebrate King Charles’ Coronation and 150th Anniversary with Beloved Choral Works

By Logan Martell

The Royal Choral Society is set to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III and its 150th anniversary in a concert of choral favorites.

Hosted by Zeb Soanes of ClassicFM, the event will showcase works that have held historical significance for the RCS, alongside favorites from composers such as Verdi, Dvorak, Elgar, Handel, Mozart, Coleridge-Taylor, and more.

Conducted by Music Director Richard Cooke, the program will conclude with Parry’s coronation anthem “I Was Glad,” with all singers invited to lend their voices alongside the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the 9,999-pipe organ.

The event will be held at the Royal Albert Hall on May 7, 2023, during the Coronation weekend. Amateur music groups with Making Music can receive a 20% discount when buying four or more stall and arena seats. Interested participants can get the sheet music for the coronation anthem at Royal Albert Hall’s website.
