The Royal Choral Society To Present Annual, Good Friday ‘Messiah’

By Logan Martell

On April 7, 2023, The Royal Choral Society will present Händel’s “Messiah” at the Royal Albert Hall.

Falling upon Good Friday, the performance has become a beloved London tradition since its beginning in 1876; since then, only the 1940-41 Blitz and the 2020-21 COVID pandemic have managed to derail a performance.

This performance will be conducted by Music Director Richard Cooke, with the choir accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and a quartet of soloists.

The choir, now celebrating their 150th anniversary, first performed the work in 1872 in their very first season. Their current season pays tribute to their history, with concerts celebrating composers such as Charles Gounod, Giuseppe Verdi, Antonin Dvorak, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, Ralph Vaughan Williams, and Malcolm Sargent, and more.
