Toronto’s The Happenstancers will present “BROKEN” on Sept. 26, 2025 at Redeemer Lutheran Church.

The event will feature a number of world premieres by Sama Shahi and Kalaisan Kalaichelvan as well as other works by Kaija Saariaho and Du Yun, among others.

”We like to eat our cake and have it too,” said cellist Peter Eom, who will be among the performers on the evening. “As in many of our recent projects, we want to experiment with masterful artworks from the past, while indulging in the freedom of the 21st century. Baroque music was contemporary and experimental when it was written, so I think there are compelling opportunities for us to take chances, especially as a so-called ‘contemporary music ensemble.’”

Headlining the showcase will be vocalist Danika Lorèn.

The event kicks off at 7:30 p.m. local time.
