By Nicole Kuchta

The French Institute / Alliance Française (FIAF) will present an HD screening of Robert Carson’s production of Offenbach’s “Les Contes d’Hoffman,” performed at the Paris Opera during the 2016/17 season. The screening, a co-presentation with American Friends of The Paris Opera & Ballet in celebration of the company’s 350th anniversary, will be introduced by conductor Joseph Colaneri.

Starring Ramón Vargas, the opera tells the story of poet Hoffmann recounting his love affairs with Olympia the doll (soprano Nadine Koutcher), Antonia the ill singer (soprano Ermonela Jaho), and Giulietta the courtesan (mezzo-soprano Kate Aldrich). Rounding out the cast are Stéphanie d’Oustrac as Nicklausse, bass Roberto Tagliavini as the four villains, and tenor Yanne Beuron as the four servants. Philippe Jordan conducts.

Refreshments will be served during the two intermissions and the screening will take place at FIAF Florence Gould Hall in New York, NY on Feb. 24 at 1 pm.
