Curtis Opera Theatre Announces ‘Opera OnDemand’

By Nicolas Quiroga

The Curtis Opera Theatre has announced that from January 22, through February 1, 2021, it will offer a free virtual offer titled “Opera OnDemand.”

The evening features scenes from Italian operas by Bellini, Donizetti, Rossini, Verdi, and Mozart under the stage direction of Scott Skiba and music directors Grant Loehning and Miloé Repick. The production designer is Brittany Merenda.

Performers include Emily Damasco, Colin Aikins, Charles Buttigieg, Evan Gray, Sage DeAgro-Ruopp, Dalia Medovnikov, Hannah Klein, Lindsey Reynolds, Joseph Tancredi, Anatasiia Sidorova, Patrick Wilhelm, Merissa Beddows, Ethan Burck, Sophia HUnt, Ruby Dibble, and Thomas Petrushka.

The video lasts 90 minutes and is supported by the Horace W. Goldsmith Foundation and the Wyncote Foundation.

Undergraduate Curtis Opera Theatre students and others with professional experience recorded for months in various parts of the world, including the US, Switzerland and Malta.

“The students are well-equipped to transfer these skills now to other virtual collaborations and audition recording production, which will become increasingly important and useful in future creative endeavors since the performing arts will likely include some form of digital programming delivery even as ‘traditional live in-theater performances’ return,” stage director Scott Skiba said in a press release.
