The Crossing Earns Major Grant for ‘Farming’

By David Salazar

The Crossing has received a $300,000 grant from The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage.

The reward was bestowed upon the Grammy-winning organization in support of “Farming,” a new concert-length musical work which is set to be premiered in the summer of 2023.

“The Crossing has grown in imagination, concept, and, indeed, size through the visionary support of The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage. We are grateful and humbled to be included in this year’s grantees – a list of amazingly creative minds and organizations that makes us once again feel so fortunate to make our home in Philadelphia,” said conductor Donald Nally in a press release.

“Farming” shines a light on food production and its effects on the environments and individuals. The work will be performed at Kings Oaks Farm in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. The work will also be recorded in studio and be released as a digital audio and video recording.

“Farming” is the company’s fifth major project to receive support from The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage following “Seneca Sounds” in 2011, “The Gulf (between you and me)” in 2013, “Seven Responses” in 2016, and “Aniara” in 2019.
