The Atlanta Opera Makes Major Cast Change to ‘Porgy & Bess’

There has been a major cast change for The Atlanta Opera’s production of “Porgy and Bess,” which opens on Saturday.

Per an update to the official website made on March 4, 2020, Talise Trevigne will be taking on the title role of Bess for all performances. She replaces Kristen Lewis, who was originally scheduled.

Trevigne has appeared in a number of major opera premieres including David T. Little and Royce Vavrek’s “JFK” and Jake Heggie and Gene Scheer’s “It’s a Wonderful Life,” both in 2016. She also headlined Missy Mazzoli and Royce Vavrek’s “Proving Up” in 2018 and will appear in the world premiere of “Castor and Patience” at Cincinnati Opera this summer. She will also perform as Bess at Lyric Opera of Kansas City later in 2020.

Trevigne will join a cast that features Morris Robinson and Musa Ngqungwana rotating as Porgy. Donovan Singletary  appears as Crown and Jermaine Smith will take on the role Sportin’ Life. Reginald Smith will interpret Jake while Jacqueline Echols appears as Clara and Indra Thomas Serena. David Charles Abell conducts a production by Francesca Zambello that will be directed by Garnett Bruce.
