The Atlanta Opera Adds Livestream Option for ‘Pirates of Penzance’ Amid Omicron Surge, Adjusts Negative COVID Test Option

By Chris Ruel

The Atlanta Opera announced it has added a livestream option for the company’s production of “Pirates of Penzance,” which opens Jan. 22, 2022.

The move comes in response to the current omicron surge and enables ticket holders to enjoy the show from their home should they feel uncomfortable attending in person.

Along with offering the livestream alternative, the company has adjusted its negative COVID testing option for audience admittance, extending the time to present a negative test from 24 hours to 48 before attending. In keeping with prior policy, vaccinated individuals need only show proof of vaccination for entrance into the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center. Masks are required for all audience members while inside the Center.

Ticket account holders, meaning the individual who purchased the ticket(s), will be sent a link to access the livestream for that evening’s show and will be valid for viewing a single performance during the run.

The Atlanta Opera won praise for its commitment to keeping live performances going over the past two years. In 2020, the company created The Big Tent Series, presenting 40 productions in a safe, outdoor setting. During that time, The Atlanta Opera also created its Spotlight Media streaming platform, on which the “Pirates” production will be streamed.
