Scottish tenor Nicky Spence has been doing his utmost to support those most affected by COVID-19 in the U.K.

On Dec. 15, 2021, Spence returned to the Waldron Health Centre, New Cross, the clinic where he volunteered during the pandemic, to give a short performance in honor of the workers. Spence thanked the NHS and to celebrate Christmas, he and soprano Julia Sitkovetsky performed Adolphe Adams’ Christmas carol “O Holy Night” and the Brindisi from Verdi’s “La Traviata.”

The concert was followed by a Tweet on Dec. 18 in which the tenor offered to help everyone interested in getting a vaccine at the clinic.

“Let me know if I can help you get your booster or 1st / 2nd vaccine this weekend… there’s even clinics open 24 hours and it’s the only way we can beat this thing! It’s not too late and I’ll wear 3 masks and lovingly escort you there myself,” wrote Spence.

Spence is a leading tenor who has appeared at the Metropolitan Opera House, Royal Opera House, Opéra National de Paris, La Monnaie, Oper Frankfurt, Teatro Real, De Nationale Opera, Opéra de Lyon, English National Opera, Scottish Opera, and Welsh National Opera, among many others. The tenor is slated to perform the role of Albert Gregor in Leoš Janáček’s “The Makropulos Affair” at the Staatsoper Berlin in February 2022, before taking on the title role in Saint-Saëns’ “Samson et Dalila” alongside Elīna Garanča at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in May and June 2022.
