Teatro San Carlo Announces New Cast Change for ‘La Traviata’

The Teatro San Carlo di Napoli has announced a cast change for its production of Verdi’s “La Traviata.”

The company noted that Gabriele Viviani will sing the role of Germont on July 27 and 29 replacing Carlos Alvarez.

It is the second cast change for the production which saw George Gagnidze step into the first two performances on July 22 and 24, 2022.

Viviani has performed at the Teatro Verdi in Trieste, Wiener Staatsoper, Arena di Verona, Royal Opera House, Teatro Regio di Torino, Lyric Opera of Chicago, and Deutsche Oper in Berlin. The baritone is known for his work in Verdi, Puccini, and Donizetti.

The baritone will join a cast that includes Pretty Yende and Francesco Demuro with Francesco Ivan Ciampa conducting the production by Ferzan Özpetek. A second cast stars Claudia Pavone, Francesco Castoro, and Ernesto Petti.
