The Teatro Nacional de Sao Carlos has announced a new Artistic Director.

The Board of Directors of OPART, EPE announced that Ivan van Kalmthout will become the new Artistic Director starting July 1, 2023.

The international selection procedure began in February and received 22 candidates from all over the world. The committee noted that Ivan van Kalmthout stood out “for its programmatic presentation for the reality of the coming years, allied to the solid curriculum and long experience of artistic direction, management and programming of artistic bodies”.

Van Kalmthout has previously worked as interim director of the Liceu Opera House in Barcelona and as director of the Berliner Staatsoper in Berlin, and in 2017 he joined the IVC board.
