Teatro Municipale di Piacenza Announces Reopening with Verdi, Fellini & Puccini

The Teatro Municipale di Piacenza has announced it will reopen on May 16.

The theater will reopen with Verdi’s Requiem conducted by Plácido Domingo. The concert will be dedicated to the victims of COVID-19 and will mark the first time Domingo performs in Piacenza since 1972 when he sang “Lucia di Lammermoor.” The concert will also feature Maria José Siri, Annalisa Stroppa, Antonio Poli, and Michele Pertusi.

The concert will be streamed on OperaStreaming for audiences at home.

On May 28 and 29, Riccardo Muti will conduct the Orchestra Giovanile Luigi Cherubini in a program that includes the overture from Donizetti’s “Don Pasquale” and Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9.

The company will also present the ballet Felliniana, an homage to Fellini. The ballet will include music by Nino Rota.

On July 30 and August 1, the theater will perform Puccini’sTosca” in a production by Giorgia Guerra. The cast will include Francesco Meli as Cavaradossi, Luca Salsi as Scarpia, and Chiara Isotton as Tosca. Sesto Quatrini conducts.
