Teatro la Fenice to Celebrate Pier Luigi Pizzi’s 90th Birthday

On June 15, the Teatro la Fenice will celebrate legendary director Pier Luigi Pizzi’s 90th birthday.

The company will stream a live interview with the director on Facebook at 11 a.m. and will later share it on YouTube and Instagram.

The interview will be conducted by Fortunato Ortombina in the Sala grande di Campo San Fantin. Ortombina will go through Pizzi’s personal story and profession, giving audiences an in-depth look at Pizzi’s school years at the Politecnico di Milano, as well as his first productions and the numerous awards he has received.

Pizzi has directed many productions for the Teatro la Fenice including “Maometto II,” “Alceste ” “The Turn of the Screw,” and “Die tote Stadt.”

He has also directed at the Royal Opera House, Bayerische Staatsoper, Wiener Staatsoper, Arena di Verona, among other theaters.
