The administration for the Teatro de la Maestranza has announced that Don Javier Menéndez Álvarez will become the General Director of the Company.

The company announced that Menéndez will assume the position until July 31, 2022.

The decision was made after looking through 17 candidates and a process which started back On. Oct. 16, 2018.

A native of Oviedo, Menéndez is no stranger to the position of General Director as he has been the general director and artistic director of the Ópera de Oviedo since 2013. He has also served as artistic director of the Gran Teatre del Liceu. Oviedo has not yet announced who will replace Menéndez, but an announcement is set to be made in the coming months.

This season, the Teatro de la Maestranza is set to present “La Tabernera del Puerto,” “Il Trovatore,” “Guillaume Tell,’ among concerts, and recitals.
