Teatro alla Scala Orchestra Releases Statement in Support of Dominque Meyer

By Francisco Salazar

The Teatro alla Scala’s Orchestra has released a statement urging leaders to give Superintendent Dominique Meyer another two years.

In a letter the orchestra said, “At this moment it would be appropriate for the current superintendent and artistic director Dominique Meyer to be able to conclude his term in full capacity to what has already been planned for next season and the following one.”

The statement added, “In consideration of the difficulties that occurred during the emergency period due to the pandemic – we are convinced -, an extension to the mandate would allow a valid artistic journey to be fully concluded.”

The statement comes after the Teatro alla Scala announced that Fortunato Ortombina would replace Dominique Meyer. The change in General Directors is due to a 2023 government reform that provides for the prohibition of receiving assignments, positions, and collaborations for those who have completed the 70th year of age.
