The Teatro alla Scala has selected a new General Director.

According to the Corriere della Sera, the theater has selected Fortunato Ortombina, the current General Director of the Teatro La Fenice. While it still has to be confirmed by the government, Ortombina will replace Dominique Meyer.

The change in General Directors is due to a 2023 government reform that provides for the prohibition of receiving assignments, positions, and collaborations for those who have completed the 70th year of age.

Meyer began his tenure at the Teatro alla Scala in 2020 following his tenure at the Wiener Staatsoper.

In addition to his work at La Fenice, Ortombina was previously the coordinator of artistic direction at La Scala and was also the artistic secretary at the Teatro San Carlo di Napoli.

More information is set to be announced at a later date.
