Teatro alla Scala Announces Another Cast Change for ‘Don Carlo’

The Teatro alla Scala has announced a new cast change for its production of “Don Carlo.”

The company said, “Due to illness, Elīna Garanča has to withdraw from the performance of Don Carlo on Dec. 22 2023.”

As a result, “The role of Princess Eboli will be entrusted to Veronica Simeoni, already involved in the performances of Dec. 30 and Jan. 2.

Simeoni recently performed at the Israeli Opera and Teatro Comunale di Bologna. This season she is set to perform at the Teatro La Fenice. The mezzo has performed the role of Eboli at the Teatro La Fenice, Opernhaus Zurich, and Teatro Comunale di Bologna.

She joins a cast that includes Anna Netrebko, Francesco Meli, Michele Pertusi, and Luca Salsi. Riccardo Chailly conducts the new production by Lluis Pasqual.

Garanča returns to the stage for concert performances in Baden-Baden, Hamburg, and Munich in January.
