The Swiss government has announced a set of new strict measures that will also affect cultural institutions, including the opera houses and concert halls.

Events with more than 50 people will be prohibited, as well as sporting and cultural leisure activities with more than 15 spectators. The Swiss government has also shut down disco clubs and dance halls. There will also be a curfew for restaurants and bars starting at 11 P.M.

A maximum of ten people will be allowed to take part in events with family and friends. All of these measures apply from Oct. 29, 2020 at midnight.

The new restrictions will undoubtedly affect the opera industry with the Lucerne Festival canceling its planned Beethoven Festival and the Opernhaus Zurich and Grand Theatre de Geneve closing its doors for the month of November.
