
Susanna Phillips Named Artist in Residence at Cathedral of St. John the Divine
By David SalazarThe Cathedral of St. John the Divine has announced the appointment of soprano Susanna Phillips as Artist in Residence for a three-year term.
As part of the Cathedral’s residency program, Phillips, who has has performed at the Metropolitan Opera, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Cincinnati Opera, and the Gran Teatre del Liceu, among others, will collaborate with Cathedral leadership to present artistic experiences that reflect the institution’s dual role as a sacred space and a center for the arts.
Phillips will make her first appearance as Artist in Residence as a featured soloist in Brahms’s “Ein deutsches Requiem.” The program will also include the Andantino from Sibelius’s Third Symphony, performed in reflection on the people of Minnesota and accompanied by a video montage addressing recent events in Minneapolis and other American cities.
The concert, set for March 7, 2026 at 7 p.m. local time, is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and New York State Legislature.
The residency program was founded in the 1970s and has previously featured Judy Collins, Jason Robert Brown, David Briggs, and Paul Winter.
