
Stattsoper Stuttgart to Present Prokofiev’s ‘Der Spieler’
By Francisco SalazarStaatsoper Stuttgart is set to present Sergei Prokofiev’s “Der Spieler” based on Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s novel of the same name.
Nicholas Carter, designated General Music Director of the company will conduct the production by Axel Ranisch, which will premiere on Feb. 2, 2025.
This will mark the third time that Ranisch directs in Stuttgart, following his productions of “Die Liebe zu drei Orangen” and “Hansel and Gretel.”
The opera will star Goran Jurić (General), Aušrine Stundyte (Polina), Daniel Brenna (Alexei), Véronique Gens (Babulenka), Elmar Gilbertsson (Marquis), Shigeo Ishino (Mr Astley) and Stine Marie Fischer (Mlle Blanche).
“Der Spieler” will be performed seven times through March 30, 2025.
