Staatsoper Stuttgart to Give the World Premiere of ‘Dora’

The main character, Dora is in her mid-twenties and stuck in the sheltered surroundings of her family. In her relentless search for direction Dora resorts to calling upon the devil, and the story unfolds with Lang’s rhythm-driven music as her accomplice. The new opera heroine pulls from the operatic tradition of the great female characters like Elektra and Brünnhilde.
Soprano Josefin Feiler takes on the lead role. Shannon Keegan, Dominic Große, Maria Theresa Ullrich, Stephan Bootz, and Elliott Carlton Hines are among the cast. Neue Vocalsolisten makes up the Ancient chorus. Elena Schwarz conducts the Staatsorchester Stuttgart. Elisabeth Stöppler serves as director, with stage and costume designer Valentin Köhler and video designer Vincent Stefan.
“Dora” is a five act opera sung in German with German and English supertitles. The world premiere takes place on March 3, and will run March 8, 15, and 22, as well as on April 1 and 4.
