Staatsoper Stuttgart Renovation May Exceed Original Budget
By Francisco SalazarThe Staatsoper Stuttgart’s renovation is set to be more expensive than originally planned.
According to the SWR, the planned renovation could cost between 1.5 and 2 billion euros and will have been higher than the original estimate of a billion euros. Additionally, the renovation is expected to be completed in 2044, four years after the planned finish.
While the new numbers have not yet been officially confirmed, according to a spokeswoman for the city of Stuttgart, discussions on this topic are currently taking place between the institutions involved.
The members of the responsible committees will be informed of the actual figures by Nov. 18 when they hold a meeting followed by an official press release.
The Staatsoper Stuttgart recently provoked controversy with a production of “Sancta Susanna” when 18 audience members required medical treatment due to the production’s explicit content. The company also recently named a new Music Director.
