The Staatsoper Unter den Linden, in partnership with Humboldt University, will host the symposium “100 Years of Wozzeck” on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 29 & 30, 2025, at the Apollo Hall.

The two-day event will bring together scholars and specialists to examine the literary, musical, and historical dimensions of Berg’s landmark modernist opera through lectures and discussions. Topics include the libretto and its literary source, visual elements in the score, approaches to musical modernism, Marie’s Bible reading, Berg’s educational ideas, the 1925 premiere and its staging, and the early Berlin reception of the work.

The program also features a reenactment of Berg’s own lecture, recited by Martin Eybl with Elias Corrinth. Admission is free and no registration is required.

“Wozzeck” which premiered on Dec. 14, 1925, will then take the stage of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden on Dec. 14, 2025 in a production by Andrea Breth under the baton of General Music Director Christian Thielemann.

Subsequent performances are scheduled for Dec. 18, and 21, 2025, and Jan. 4, 2026, with a pre-performance talk offered 45 minutes before curtain.
