Spoleto Festival USA Launches Chorus and Audition Tour

By Logan Martell

Spoleto Festival USA has announced the formation of the Spoleto Festival USA Chorus, a new professional choir that builds upon the company’s commitment to showcasing exceptional choral music and artists.

The chorus will embark on an audition tour in search of 50 inaugural vocal fellows, who will perform major choral works, as well as sing in mainstream opera productions and special projects. The structure will follow that of SF Orchestra, where each season has a distinctive identity based on the ensemble members.

Auditions will be held in Cincinnati on October 23, New York on November 6, Houston on November 12, and Charleston on November 13. Digital auditions can be arranged for those who are unable to travel.

“For many years, young artists in the Westminster Choir served as the Festival’s resident chorus, first under the direction of Joseph Flummerfelt and subsequently with Joe Miller,” says General Director Nigel Redden. “Young singers have always been an integral and beloved part of the Festival’s fabric, and these exquisite voices will continue to fill Charleston’s performance halls for years to come.”
