By David Salazar

Music Before 1800 will present “The Sebastians at Chatham Baroque” on April 13, 2025.

The event, set to take place at Corpus Christi Church in New York City, will showcase Bach’s “Markus Passion” with such soloists as actor Joseph Marcell, soprano Pascale Beaudin, countertenor Cody Bowers, tenor James Reese,  and bass Jonathan Woody.

Jeffrey Grossman conducts and performs on the harpsichord. The work is adapted and directed by Bill Barclay with editing by Malcolm Bruno. It is produced by Concert Theatre Works and commissioned by the Oregon Bach Festival.

The famed work is being presented in a new edition by musicologist Malcolm Bruno, who reconstructed the “Markus Passion,” utilizing material from other works by J.S. Bach. The staged version of this reconstruction will tour to the UK and West Coast and will also have a world premiere in Pittsburgh on April 11.
