Soprano Sarah Dacey Stars in the World Premiere of ‘On Memory’

By Afton Wooten

Soprano Sarah Dacey will star in the world premiere of “On Memory” by Harry Whalley.

This unique work explores the connection between memories, music, poetry, and science. The performance by Dacey and the Gildas String Quartet along with a poetry and scientific exploration by neurologist Professor Adam Zeman and author Alexander McCall Smith will answer the question, “How do memories make us who we are?”

Whalley’s composition divides a different facet of memory into each movement of the work. Each segment of “On Memory” has been crafted to transport listeners to different moments in time. The composer’s research has helped those suffering from memory and cognitive decline, Dementia, and Alzheimer’s disease through music therapy. This concert serves as a milestone for the continuing research.

“On Memory” is presented in collaboration with the University of the Creative Arts at the Kings Place on May 27.
