Six LGBT Operas To Be Presented By American Opera Projects

While Pride month is still a month away, six American Opera Project operas are set to take the stage this month.

It all begins with Paula Kimper’s “Patience and Sarah,” considered the first mainstream LGBT opera. The work will be showcased by the Hunter Opera Theatre with Susan Gonzalez directing and David Fulmer conducting.

Performance Dates: May 9 & 10, 2019

Composers TJ Rubin, Brian Cavanagh-Strong, Kevin Cummines, and Bryan Blaskie present four new mini-operas entitled “The Stonewall Mini Operas.” The operas are set to librettos by Deepali Gupta, Ben Bonnema, Shoshana Greenberg, and Seth Christenfeld and will showcase performances by Errin Duane Brooks, Brandon Coleman, Sara Couden, Amy Justman, Kathryn Krasovec, Jordan Rutter, Hans Tashjian, and Clayton Williams.

Performance Dates: May 19 & 20, 2019 

The New York City Opera presents Laura Kaminsky, Mark Campbell and Kimberly Reed’s “As One” with two distinct casts featuring Blythe Gaissert, Brianna Elyse Hunter, Michael Kelly, and Jorell Williams.

Performance Dates: May 30-June 8, 2019
