Simone Ibbett-Brown, Carolyn Dobbin, Simon Wallfisch Headline 8th London Festival of American Music

The London Festival of American Music has announced its slate for the eighth iteration of the annual event, which is set to take place between Sept. 13-18, 2021.

For the purposes of this article, our focus will be solely on vocal performances. All events in the festival will take place at The Warehouse in London.

Opening the festival will be a concert headlined by mezzo-soprano Simone Ibbett-Brown featuring new music by Augusta Read Thomas and a world premiere by Odaline de la Martinez. There will also be music by Margaret Bonds, Fred Lerdahl, and Florence Price.

Performance Date: Sept. 13, 2021

Laura Kaminsky, Kimberley Reed, and Mark Campbell’s “As One” will make its UK premiere. The showcase will star Simon Wallfisch and Carolyn Dobbin with Sarah Chew directing. Odaline de la Martinez will conduct the Lontano String Quartet.

Performance Date: Sept. 15-18, 2021

There will also be two additional piano-centered performances. One will feature music by Daniel Asia, Yuanyuan He, Gabriela Lena Frank, Tanya Leon, while the other will present music by William Grant Still, Florence Price, Zenobia Powell Perry, and Nora Holt, among others.
