San Francisco Symphony Orchestra Cancels Performances through March 20 Due to Coronavirus

The San Francisco Symphony has canceled all performances through March 20, 2020.

Among the affected performances are the March 8 concert with Michael Barenboim and the West-Eastern Divan Ensemble; the March 12-14 concert with Michael Tilson Thomas and Gautier Capuçon; and the March 15 concert with the Youth Orchestra Playing Britten. Sir James Galway’s Flute recital on March 17 has also been canceled.

In a press statement the Orchestra said, “San Francisco Mayor London N. Breed today announced that War Memorial Performing Arts Center venues, including Davies Symphony Hall, will be closed for all public events for the next two weeks in an effort to reduce the spread of COVID-19. All San Francisco Symphony Concerts scheduled at Davies Symphony Hall through March 20 are canceled.”

The San Francisco Symphony has announced that all exchange fees will be waived in this situation.

The orchestra is set to return on March 22 for a concert entitled “Buster Keaton’s The General—Silent Film with Organist Cameron Carpenter.”
