Erin Wagner Among Headliners of Walter M. Naumburg Foundation’s Centennial Gala
By David SalazarOn May 17, 2026, the Walter M. Naumburg Foundation marks its 100th anniversary with a Gala Concert at the Rose Theater at Jazz at Lincoln Center.
Among the afternoon’s highlights is mezzo-soprano Erin Wagner, who performs selections from Alban Berg’s “Early Songs” alongside pianist Seth Knopp. Also performing are such artists as violinist Leonidas Kavakos and pianist Awadagin Pratt. The program features the world premiere of Steven Mackey’s newly commissioned work “The Frog Prince or Iron Henry,” performed by the Brentano String Quartet with narrator Lucy Shelton, as well as a rare reunion of the Emerson String Quartet. Remarks will be given by famed violinist Itzhak Perlman and Naumburg President Nicholas Mann.
“In 1926, Walter Naumburg had a dream to create an organization that supported exceptional young artists,” Mann said, per an official press release. “One hundred years later, that vision continues to resonate through the extraordinary musicians whose careers began here.”
Among the major operatic stars to win the competition are Shirley Verrett, Dawn Upshaw, and Julia Bullock.
The concert begins at 3 p.m. local time.
